Enter doormat
I quite want this. But I’d need an ‘Esc’ doormat for the back door. And probably a ‘Ctrl’ one for the playroom. Because we all know who’s really in charge.

Football pitch rug
Anyone who’s ever played Subbuteo (table football) on a flimsy felt pitch will know that this 80×160 cm rug could change lives. Yours for £148.55 from the Scandinavian Design Center.

Unsightly cables as wall art
Maisie Maud Broadhead’s Cable Drawings – A series of installations created with wire flex and cable fixings – is a splendid way to deal with excess cable-age. Although you’d have to have rather a lot of excess to pull off anything resembling the masterpiece above… or an extension cord. Which would kind of defeat the object.

Hanging Brush: probably the greatest paintbrush concept ever
You know that painting ‘moment’ you get when taking a break, possibly between coats, when you’re forced to leave your paintbrush precariously balanced on the rim of the can causing a slow-but-fatal stream of paint to ooze its oil-based way onto and through the old piece of rag you wrongly assumed would protect the carpet in such situations? Of course you do. Good news, then: the Hanging Brush concept designed by Bang Jun Mo & You In Sik has arrived to save the lives of weekend decorators, one carpet at a time.

Space Invaders superimposed onto real war photography
Adam Richardson’s Invaded Space collection features photographs of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq with characters from the classic Space Invaders video game superimposed over the top.
At first glance you might feel it trivialises the war. On second thoughts, however, if there were any more thought processes involved other than ‘hey, let’s do something cliched’ – it was probably more to do with giving it to the man (the ‘game-playing’ government) than making a mockery of the armed forces.

Bomb-proof wallpaper for overprotective parents
X-Flex Blast Protection System wallpaper was designed by Berry Plastics in partnership with the US Army Corp of Engineers. Apparently, just one layer is enough to beat a wrecking ball while a double layer can stop blunt objects (”i.e. a flying 2×4″) from breaking through. Ideal for army bases, tall buildings under threat from terrorism and playrooms. After all, you can never be too safe.
NOTE: I’m going to hide this from my wife because she will actually make me order some.

Off The Wallpaper
Kicki Edgren Nyborg has designed a series of immense concept wallpapers with hidden shelves (the Off The Wall collection) and bustling landscapes (WallPlay). The latter is a bit like painting a playroom wall with blackboard paint – so the wall itself becomes part of the fun – just with a lot more colour, obviously.

Literal flatpack chair

When dismantled, the pieces of Eric Ku’s Flatpack Chair spell out the word CHAIR. Fun! Just to confirm, it definitely does not spell out the word COMFORT.

Bowling alley becomes furniture
This table was crafted from reclaimed strips of wood from an abandoned bowling alley by designer William Stranger. A hands-down highlight from his Second Life collection, currently on display at LA’s Fifth Floor Gallery until 14th November.
Anyone who shares my penchant for Wii Bowling will understand why this thing rocks so hard.
